In the “Best Scientists” list published by Research.com; Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer from Near East University ranked first in Cyprus and the second best scientist in Turkey in the field of “Biology and Biochemistry”. In the same list; while Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman got the first place in the TRNC in the field of “Computer Sciences”, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özsöz and Prof. Dr. İhsan Çalış, on the other hand, took place as the first two best scientists in the TRNC in the field of “chemistry”.
Research.com, one of the international research portals, has announced the list of the world’s and countries’ best scientists. Near East University academics made a big difference with their TRNC, Cyprus and Turkey degrees in the fields of “Biology and Biochemistry”, “Computer Sciences” and “Chemistry”.
In the list, which was prepared based on the D-Index data, in which only scientific studies produced by scientists in their own fields were included, the awards and citations received by scientists in their fields were also taken into consideration.

Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy Head of Pharmacognosy Department and Near East University Graduate Education Institute Director Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer was the best scientist in the field of “Biology and Biochemistry” in the “Biology and Biochemistry” category of Research.com. He was the best scientist in Cyprus in general and in the TRNC, and ranked second in this field in Turkey.
Making a name for himself with his studies on alkaloids, essential oils and natural products, Prof. Dr. Başer also contributed to the naming of five new plant species included in the flora of Turkey, and four plants were named with his name. Having published 1,083 articles throughout his career, 883 of which were in international peer-reviewed journals, Prof. Dr. Hüsnü Can Başer has produced more than 150 congress papers and 62 books. Also, a member of the Science Academy Association, Prof. Dr. Başer has many national and international awards, including the TUBITAK Science Award.

Having many national and international awards, including the TUBITAK Science Award, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özsöz was shown as the best scientist in the TRNC in the field of “Chemistry” by Research.com for his studies as a faculty member of the Biomedical Engineering Department of the Engineering Faculty. Near East University Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. İhsan Çalış was shown as the second best scientist in the TRNC in the same field, there was no name other than TRNC in this field. One of the founding members of Turkish Doping Control Foundation, Ankara University Medical and Aromatic Plants Research Center, Hacettepe University Pharmacognosy Research and Development Association, TUBITAK Science Award winner Prof. Dr. İhsan Çalış is also a member of Ankara Chamber of Pharmacists, Ankara Association of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Gesellschaft für Arzneipflanzenforschung, American Society of Pharmacognosy, Association of Science Academy. The newly discovered “Geven Grass” species in Erzurum in 2018 was also named “Astragalus İhsancalisii” after the name of İhsan Çalış.

Near East University Director of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Institute and Director of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things Research Center Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman, on the other hand, was included in the list of “Computer Sciences” in the TRNC as the best scientist, and among the top 3,600 scientists in the world. Shown as one of the top 5 academics in his field in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman, with his works in areas such as Intelligent IoT systems, wireless and mobile network architectures, and artificial intelligence, was presented for the first time in June 2022. He also received the Suat Günsel Honor Award Gold Medal.
