Artificial intelligence will start giving courses as an instructor at the Near East University Faculty of Engineering in the new education term!

Artificial Intelligence will teach two introductory courses at the YODAK-approved Artificial Intelligence Engineering Department of Near East University next semester! With the application developed by the Near East University Artificial Intelligence Institute, artificial intelligence will also determine the grades of the students in these courses.
Artificial intelligence technologies, which have developed rapidly in recent years, now have a much more visible effect in many areas of life. Education is one of the areas where artificial intelligence has the strongest potential for change with the “personalized education” opportunities it can provide. Near East University is preparing to take the role of artificial intelligence in education one step further! Starting from the next academic year, artificial intelligence will teach the two main courses of the YODAK-approved Artificial Intelligence Engineering Department at the Near East University, which is preparing to break new ground in Europe as well as Turkish universities!

With the application developed by the International Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things (IoT) Research Center, which continues its studies within the Artificial Intelligence Institute of Near East University, using the GPT3.5 and GPT4 infrastructure, students who receive artificial intelligence engineering education will be able to directly interact with artificial intelligence. Moreover, artificial intelligence will also determine the grades of the students in these courses. With this application, Near East University aims to provide students with a personalized and interactive learning experience.

A first in Europe!
The Near East University’s use of artificial intelligence as a trainer is a first in Europe. Near East University, which set out with the aim of improving by adapting innovative technologies to the education process, is among the best universities in the world in the field of computer science and engineering. Near East University ranks first among the Turkish and TRNC universities in the “World Universities Ranking 2023” field rankings published by Times Higher Education, among the top 175 universities in the world in “Computer Sciences” and the top 200 universities in the world in “Engineering”. The University aims to maintain its pioneering role in these fields with the application it will implement.

Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel: “We will build the future on these technologies by using innovations in the right way without fearing or excluding them.”
Making a statement about the project implemented by Near East University by realizing a first in Europe, Near East University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel emphasized that technologies that have the potential to shape the future, such as artificial intelligence, should be adapted without fearing the innovations that such developments bring in. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “We will build the future on these technologies by using innovations in the right way without fearing or excluding them.”

Reminding that Near East University continues to develop innovative projects in many fields from health to sustainable environmental management with many projects supported by artificial intelligence, Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “We will continue to lead the way in shaping the educational environment of the future without fear of technological innovations.”

Prof. Dr. Fadi AL-Turjman: “With the application we will implement, we will enable our students to experience the artificial intelligence systems they will work on.”
The training of the artificial intelligence application, which will start teaching courses as a trainer next year, is carried out under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman. In the study published by Research.com, one of the international research portals, in May, in which the best scientists of the world and countries were listed, Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman was awarded the first in science field in June 2022, He also received the Dr. Suat Günsel Honor Award Gold Medal.

Near East University Director of Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Institute and Director of Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things Research Center Prof. Dr. Fadi AL-Turjman points out the potential advantages of using artificial intelligence applications in education. Stating that artificial intelligence can provide students with personalized, one-to-one education opportunities, Prof. Dr. Fadi AL-Turjman said, “Artificial intelligence can personalize learning experiences to suit students’ individual needs and learning styles. With in-depth knowledge of students’ abilities, interests, strengths and weaknesses, they can provide students with customized lesson plans, materials, and feedback. Thus, each student can learn at their own pace and style.”

Underlining that the application will be for the students of the “Artificial Intelligence Engineering” department, Prof. Dr. AL-Turjman said, “With the application we will implement, we will also enable our students to experience the artificial intelligence systems on which they will work.”

Artificial Intelligence: “An application full of potential, a creative and interesting idea!”
The artificial intelligence ChatGPT, who was asked about the Near East University’s use of him as an instructor, commented on the application as “An application full of potential, a creative and interesting idea”. Saying that it can help students improve themselves, the artificial intelligence application said, “At the same time, I can demonstrate my ability to understand complex questions and produce correct answers.”

Reminding the importance of ethical and responsibility awareness during the use of artificial intelligence, ChatGPT said, “Students should be informed about the ethical and social effects of artificial intelligence and it should be ensured that they can evaluate the potential effects of artificial intelligence on people. This enables them to use artificial intelligence in a sustainable and socially beneficial way.”

ChatGPT description; “Using ChatGPT as an instructor in the artificial intelligence engineering department of Near East University can enable students to develop their skills in artificial intelligence and have an interactive learning experience. At the same time, it will be useful in the creation of course materials and the development of projects.”
